About IP Location

Our Mission

IP Location was created with a clear mission: to provide a fast, accurate, and completely free IP geolocation lookup tool that anyone can use. We believe that understanding the geographic origin of network traffic is essential for network administrators, security professionals, web developers, and curious individuals alike.

In an era of increasing online threats and privacy concerns, having access to reliable IP information helps organizations and individuals make more informed decisions about network security, content delivery, and user experience optimization.

What We Offer

Our tool provides comprehensive information about any IPv4 or IPv6 address:

  • Geographic Location: Country, region/state, city, and approximate coordinates with street-level precision where available.
  • Network Information: Internet Service Provider (ISP) name, ASN (Autonomous System Number), and network prefix details.
  • Interactive Map: Visualize the approximate location on an interactive map powered by OpenStreetMap and Leaflet.js.
  • Risk Assessment: Security risk scoring based on community-reported abuse data, helping you identify potentially malicious IP addresses.
  • Technical Details: Timezone, currency, country code, and other metadata associated with the IP address.
  • Domain Resolution: Enter a domain name and we'll automatically resolve it to its IP address before performing the lookup.

Our Technology

IP Location is built with a modern, lightweight technology stack designed for speed and reliability:

  • Frontend: Pure HTML5, CSS3, and vanilla JavaScript (ES6+) — no heavy frameworks, ensuring fast load times and a smooth user experience.
  • Map Component: Leaflet.js with OpenStreetMap tiles for interactive, zoomable maps.
  • Backend: Cloudflare Workers provide a globally distributed API proxy layer, ensuring low-latency responses regardless of the user's location.
  • i18n: Built-in internationalization supporting English, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese.

Data Sources

We aggregate data from multiple reputable providers to ensure accuracy and availability:

  • Geolocation Provider: Provides geolocation data including country, region, city, timezone, ISP, and coordinates.
  • Network Intelligence: Supplementary geolocation and network data including ASN information and company details.
  • Regional Internet Registry: Authoritative ASN lookup data from one of the five Regional Internet Registries worldwide.
  • Abuse Intelligence: Community-driven abuse reporting database that provides risk scores and abuse report history for IP addresses.

By using multiple data sources, our system provides automatic fallback — if one provider is temporarily unavailable, the lookup continues with alternative sources, ensuring reliable service.

Accuracy & Limitations

We are transparent about the inherent limitations of IP geolocation technology:

  • IP geolocation is an approximation, not a precise measurement. Accuracy varies by data provider and typically ranges from 99%+ at the country level to 50-80% at the city level.
  • Users accessing the internet through VPNs, proxies, or Tor will show the location of the exit node, not their physical location.
  • Mobile network IP addresses are often assigned from centralized pools that may be located hundreds of kilometers from the user.
  • Risk scores are based on historical abuse reports and may not reflect the current status of an IP address.

Free Service

IP Location is a free service supported by optional advertisements. We are committed to keeping our core features accessible to all users without requiring registration, subscription, or payment. We do not sell user data to third parties.
